  2. “He has filled the hungry with good things, but has sent the rich away empty” (Luke 1:53)

  3. A message for the hungry • He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. (Psalm 107:9) • The Maker of heaven and earth upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. (Psalm 146:7) • The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. (Proverbs 10:3)

  4. A message for the hungry • Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35) • Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. (Revelation 7:16)

  5. A message for the hungry • Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6) • Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. (Luke 6:21)

  6. A message for the hungry • I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. (Philippians 4:12) • I have labored & toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger & thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. (2 Corinthians 11:27)

  7. A message for the hungry – our response? A greater appreciation of & hunger for God… …a willingness to satisfy the hunger of others

  8. A message for the hungry • Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.” (Matthew 15:32) • If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. (Romans 12:20, cf. Proverbs 25:21)

  9. A message for the hungry • For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. • Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?” • Then the King will say, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:35, 37, 40)

  10. “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? • Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.” “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. • The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:6-11)
