  2. Starter Activity connect 9 dots with 4 straight lines, without lifting the pen from the paper or going back on yourself . . . . . . . . .

  3. Crossing the Bridge • Alice, Brian, Carol and David are on an outdoors, team building course. They have to cross a bridge in 17 minutes. The bridge will collapse if there are more than two people on it at the same time. It is dark and it is too dangerous to cross the bridge without a torch. There is only one torch. Alice can cross the bridge in 1 minute. The others are wounded or injured to varying degrees which means that it takes: • Brian 2 minutes to cross the bridge; • Carol 5 minutes to cross the bridge; • David 10 minutes to cross the bridge. • If there is more than one person on the bridge, the bridge can only be crossed at the speed of the slowest person. How can they cross the bridge in 17 minutes?

Solution • Alice(1 min) and Brian(2 min) cross the bridge (2 minutes) • Alice(1 min) takes the torch back to the other side (1 minute) • Carol(5 min) and David(10 min) cross the bridge (10 minutes) • Brian(2 min) takes the torch back to the other side (2 minutes) • Alice(1 min) and Brian(2 min) cross the bridge (2 minutes)

  12. Planning Revision When should I start? • As soon as possible – The longer the period of revision, the more thorough you can be

  13. How do I plan my revision? • Make a list of subjects to revise and break them down into topics • Estimate how long each topic is likely to take to revise • Make a revision programme which includes 2 or 3 topics / methods per session

  14. Getting down to it……… • Prepare a place to revise before you are due to start • Ensure that you have everything you need • Decide on a time to start/finish and stick to it - NO excuses! • Plan regular breaks to sustain concentration

  16. Tips for Revising • Make condensed notes or diagrams for each topic • Make revision cards with key words highlighted • Use pod casts, videos or the Internet to add variety • Test yourself with friends or parents or attempting past papers

  21. Good preparation • Wake up at a suitable time • Eat a healthy, substantial breakfast • Check that you have all the resources you need for the exam including your seat number • Get to school in plenty of time • Go to the toilet just before the exam
