The Material World Anniversary Debate Series • With a mission to work toward building an intellectually challenging community, MW instituted the Material World Anniversary Management/Tech Debate Series in 2004. • The theme of the 1st in the series was "Good Managers Need Not Be B School Graduates" and the second was "For the Indian, E-Commerce Is A Far Off Dream". The third in the series was on Corporate Social Responsibility and the fourth held in 2007 had "Overseas Education: Luxury Then, Necessity Now" as its theme. The 2008 debate had "The Overemphasis of Soft Skills is undermining the learning of Hard skills" as the theme. • Thought leaders from the region and beyond are invited to participate in this knowledge generation forum.   7. Select Facilitator Profiles • HIRAK BHATTACHARJEE, B. Tech (IIT-Kgp), M. Tech (IIT-Kgp) specializing in Industrial Engineering and OR has undergone professional training in Manpower Planning & Personnel Management (IAMR, New Delhi), Performance Appraisal (IIM-A), HRD, (NEIBM, Guwahati), ISO-9000 (Assocham, New Delhi). • His illustrious career includes stints with Siemens (Bombay) and BRPL.  He is an expert in areas of organization structure and HRP, Acquisition and Deployment, Compensation, Incentives & Rewards, Employee Relations. • He regularly trains junior to top-level executives and workers of multinational, private Indian and government organizations and has had an administrative stint with NIPM. Several of his papers have been  published in national and international journals. He is a key member of the Material World Board of Advisors.

  8. K R Natarajan • He is M. Sc, M. Tech; has 30 years experience in Industry. He was with Tata Steel at the time of retirement. Mr. Natarajan was a member of the MD's office at Tata Steel and assisted Dr. J.J. Irani in techno commercial assignments. • Mr. Natarajan has conducted numerous Management Development Programs for leading corporate houses including the TATA Group, Usha Martin & Mahindra Steel. • He is Chapter Secretary, National Institute of Quality & Reliability (NIQR). He is also on the Expert's Panel of SMDC- 28 & 29 of Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi.

Debaprasad Chattopadhyay • Prof.Debaprasad Chattopadhyay carries with him thirty-six years experience in industry & academics.He started his career with MERCK SHARP & DOHME,& has worked through in THEMIS CHEMICALS,ORGANON,SOL PHARMA & Dr.REDDY'S LABORATORIES LTD,where he was Divisional Manager-Training & Developement. • Prof.Chattopadhyay has taught HRD/Marketing/General Management/Communication Studies for nine years in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, AIMA, Ashutosh College & other management institutes in PGDM,MBA & BBA streams. He is on the faculty-pool of leading institutions & companies for Management Developement Programmes. • He has also conducted various HRD programmes in companies like Pepsi India,Cipla,Nicholas Piramal,Andrew Yule, Nalco, India Steamship, National Insurance Company Limited, Titan, Tata Steel, HSBC, ISTD, etc.. He has been actively involved in conducting various MDPs on HR at Globsyn Business School. Prof.Chattopadhyay has to his credit several publications in various journals& presented technical-papers at different national conferences..

Gautam Chatterjea • Gautam Chatterjea is a brand management professional having handled nearly two hundred band promotion and communication projects in his working life. He has over 30 years rich and varied corporate experience in various operating roles. A postgraduate from Delhi School of Economics and PGDM in Advertising & Marketing from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Delhi in his second-career, after three-decades of successful stint in the corporate world, he now freelances as consultant and corporate trainer on business relevant skill sets on professional development Distinct Competence • He specialises in brand management, communication and executive education.   He has authored business relevant knowledge improvement titles on Advertising, Image Management, Direct Marketing, CRM, Rural Marketing & Communication and, The Art of Presentations. Rupa & Co has published these 6 titles as Knowledge Management Series. He also has a published book on travel.  • He has worked with    G.D. Pharmaceuticals Ltd.,  Ogilvy & Mather International, Frank Simoes Advertising Ltd., Delhi; Prisma Ogilvy & Mather, Kathmandu. While brand management has been the mainstay of his career, the fact that he lay deep emphasis in management processes, afforded him the responsibility of in-house coaching of executives in every organisation he worked with. This has been a major attribute for successful steering of professional teamwork in creating results. As professional trainer he had the opportunity to address many training assignments with Manufacturing, FMCG, Service Industry and educational institutes in India and Nepal.

Profile of Chief Resource Person, Rajib Kumar • Rajib Kumar is Fellow, Center for Research in Materials Management, a research center set up jointly under IISWBM, India's first B School & Indian Institute of Materials Management. He also has postgraduate degrees in Business Management as well as Materials Management. • Rajib has Bachelor credits in Computer Science, Psychology, Discrete Math & Communication among others from an US College as well. This enables him to bring a global and cross cultural touch in his sessions. • He is on the faculty panel of several leading management institutes. He is regularly invited to assess “finishing school skills” and employability levels/interviewee skills of graduating students of engineering colleges and B Schools. • Rajib and his colleagues regularly consults and trains executives of multinational companies, private Indian and government officials. He has trained executives of Japanese, American and German multinational and leading Indian companies across industry verticals -media, process, pharma, durables, and engineering, to name a few; associates of network marketing companies as well senior executives of Ordnance Board & Coal India in various fora. He has trained over 1000 executives at various levels. • Rajib writes on Management and current affairs related issues and edits the widely read (manag) e-zine of the Material World Group “Offline” and has 4 published papers to his credit till date.
