    2. Genre: Biography - “A Tale of the Brothers Grimm”, is a biography of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, two brothers who collected and published fairy tales and folktales. Their stories include “Cinderella,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” and “Rumpelstiltskin.” - A Biography is a true story about someone’s life The brother Grimm are famous for fairy tales but they are real people. This story is not a fairy tale--it is a true story about real people who collected fairy tales.

    3. Activate Prior Knowledge - Do you know any stories made popular by the Brothers Grimm? ( Do you remember “The Bremen Town Musicians” ?) - What have we learned so far about storytelling ?

    4. Summary Jacob and Welhelm lived in Germany more than 200 years ago. As young men, they traveled around Germany collecting old stories that people had told for many years but had never written down. They published the tales in a book, so parents could read the stories to their children. A collection of these stories, called Grimms’ Fairy Tales, has been translated into almost 70 languages.

    5. About the Author Terry Fertig was once a teacher, but now she is an editor and writer. Her favorite type of writing are nonfiction articles and children’s stories. She lives in Skokie, Illinois, outside Chicago, with her husband. She also has two grown children.

    6. About the Illustrator Illustrator Doris Ettlinger lives in a 150-year-old mill on the banks of a river in New Jersey. She shares a studio with her husband, a fellow artist.
