4. Summary Jacob and Welhelm lived in Germany more than 200 years ago. As young men, they traveled around Germany collecting old stories that people had told for many years but had never written down. They published the tales in a book, so parents could read the stories to their children. A collection of these stories, called Grimms’ Fairy Tales, has been translated into almost 70 languages.
5. About the Author Terry Fertig was once a teacher, but now she is an editor and writer. Her favorite type of writing are nonfiction articles and children’s stories. She lives in Skokie, Illinois, outside Chicago, with her husband. She also has two grown children.
6. About the Illustrator Illustrator Doris Ettlinger lives in a 150-year-old mill on the banks of a river in New Jersey. She shares a studio with her husband, a fellow artist.
