When did hijab become fard? Dhul Qa’adh, 5 H O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known so as not to be annoyed, and Allah is ever Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful [Surah Al-Ahzab: 59]
Evidence in Hadith Abu Dawood narrates that `Aishah (RAA) said: "Asmaa' the daughter of Abu Bakr (RAA) came to see the Messenger of Allah (SAAWS) wearing a thin dress; so Allah's Messenger (SAAWS) turned away from her and said: O Asmaa', once a woman reaches the age of menstruation, no part of her body should be seen but this-and he pointed to his face and hands.
Allah SWT says in the Quran…. "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty, that will make for greater purity for them...Say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty...O you believers! Turn you all together towards Allah that you may attain success" [24:30-31]
Allah SWT says in the Quran… • "And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms..." [24:31] "…only that which is apparent" } applies to women’s face and hands.
Evidence from the Quran “It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision” [al-Ahzaab 33:36]
Virtues of Hijab • Freedom • Protection • Respect • Sense of belonging • Recognition as a Muslim • Da’wah • More Aware
Punishments for not wearing Hijab Narrated AbuHurayrah: Rasulullah (SAW) said: Two are the types of the denizens of Hell whom I did not see: people having flogs like the tails of the ox with them and they would be beating people, and the women who would be dressed but appear to be naked, who would be inclined (to evil) and made their husbands incline towards it. Their heads would be like the humps of the bukht camel inclined to one side. They will not enter Paradise and they would not smell its odor whereas it odor would be smelt from such and such distance. [Sahih Muslim Book 23, Number 5310]
