  2. Comprehensive Advocacy,Inc. • Comprehensive Advocacy, Inc. assists people with disabilities to protect, promote and advance their legal and human rights through quality legal, individual and system advocacy.

  3. Eligibility Criteria • Must be a person with a disability • Must have an issue relating to that disability

  4. Types of Cases Accepted • Must involve the denial of legal rights, service entitlements or human rights, directly related to the disability

  5. Programs • PAIMI: Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness • PADD: Protection and Advocacy for individuals with Developmental Disabilities • PAIR: Protection and Advocacy of Individual Rights • PAAT: Protection and Advocacy for Assistive Technology • CAP: Client Assistance Program • PABSS: Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security • PATBI: Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injuries

  12. TBI P&A Grants Funding • Competitive process for federally established Protection and Advocacy Systems • Territories and the American Indian Consortium - $20,000 • States - $50,000

  13. TBI P&A Grants General Goals • Plan and assess P&A System responsiveness to TBI issues • Outreach to the brain injury community • Culturally competent person and family directed services

  14. TBI P&A Grants • Three year projects • Budget awarded annually assuming funds available

  15. TBI P&A Specific Goals • Increase staff expertise in advocacy for people with TBI • Increase capacity for advocacy services • Establish involvement of people with TBI and their families in the development of annual priorities

  16. P&A Goals cont. • Include specific TBI issues in systemic advocacy with state agencies, the state legislature and in Olmstead compliance activities • Increase and improve information and referral materials • Expand outreach activities to the TBI community

Traumatic Brain Injury(TBI) • is an insult to the brain, not of degenerative or congenital nature, caused by an external physical force that may produce a diminished or altered state of consciousness, which results in an impairment of cognitive abilities or physical functioning and/or a disturbance of behavioral or emotional functioning.
