Whether you choose wood, natural gas, propane or gel fireplace, it is always recommended to consult with building professionals before installing, as codes vary from place to place.
Ensure that there are no branches or foliage around your fireplace. You need to allow at least six feet of cleared space from the fireplace. You need to also check what the requirement in your area is.
If your fire bowl is designed to burn real wood, then you will be provided with a mesh cover. So, once the fire is lit and it burns down a little, make sure to cover with the mesh. By doing so, you can avoid sparks floating out and any flammable debris from blowing into the fire bowl.
Even though building the fire is time consuming, never use accelerants like charcoal lighter fluid or gasoline to light the fire.
Make sure that you are using textiles that are designed for outdoor use. For instance, don’t grab a pillow from your bedroom and use it on the patio. Textiles designed for outdoor use are recommended as they are usually fade resistant and UV protected.
