Situation Well established or currently in development being eBusiness Centers of Excellence with strong regional integration in the region (e.g. eCommerce Center Maribor, biztech institute, evolaris eBusiness Competence Center...) BUT: Much more opportunities to take advantage from linking the centers and their respective industry partners with each other.

  3. Cross-border linking of Centers of Excellence Building a net out of similar focused Centers of Excellence in a certain area would generate various advantages and possibilities. Advantages • Increased efficiency in research and training • Business opportunities between the partners • Common procedures in acquiring big projects, clear responsibilities

Opportunities • Take advantage of unused synergies in regional development agendas • Promote cross-border eBusiness • Avoid overlapping research efforts • Collective training of Competence Center´s employees • Exchange of academic teaching staff • Establish the European research area (ERA) • Conjoint FP6 projects (IP, NoE)

STRAPAMO facts Eligible expenses • Internal and external labour costs • Project related software and internet solutions • Feasibility studies • Expenses for cross-border stays for study purpose at partner institutions • Travelling and subsistence expenses Duration: 12 – 18 months, single call open until January 24th,2003 Applicable amount: 75% of eligible expenses, 100.000€ max Project deliverables • Allocation of potential actors • Concepts for application within European Research Programmes (FP6: NoE, IP) • Making use of complementarities of coordinated research and development capacities between the participants (www.bit.ac.at/strapamo)

Further funding opportunities of cross-border linked Centers of Excellence • STRAPAMO: Program from the Austrian Ministry of Economics and Labour to support RTD or production networks between Central/Eastern European countries and Austria. • Leonardo: Line B - Transnational Networks, two-stage process (initial proposal, full proposal) • Interreg III/A AT-CZ, AT-SI, AT-SK, AT-HU • FP6 Integrated Projects and Networks of Excellence (EoI: RED - Regional eCommerce Development NoE)

  9. Tasks & Next Steps • Document the interest in building cross-border networks of Centers of Excellence by signing a Letter of Intent • Design a common project within the STRAPAMO programme • Acquire participating companies in particular countries • Define STRAPAMO proposal
