18. Our Curriculum is based on the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and the Common Core State Standards. These can both be located on the CPALMS website. 2nd Grade Curriculum

All Science and Social Studies standards are embedded in the 6 PYP units. -We use a variety of curriculums to teach these subjects – resource books, experiments, adopted text books. -National Geographic- Science Resource adopted by district. -Inquiry based -Many investigations Social Studies/ Science

Assessments and PYP Projects • -Formative assessments will be taken regularly but might not receive a grade. • -Summatives will assess final concepts and either a rubric, assignment, or score sheet will be sent home • Example: Word work center vs. Phonics Check • -One of the elements of the PYP is projects. Please make sure this is a child-centered activity and that your child is able to create and explain his or her project.

25. Morning Procedures • -Doors open at 7:30 am for breakfast. • -If students are not eating breakfast they are encouraged to come to school at 7:50 and go straight to class. • -If students arrive to school between 7:30-7:50, they MUST wait in the cafeteria. • -Classrooms open at 7:50. • -Entrance to the Main building is through the front doors facing MacDill Ave. • -Side doors will remain locked at all times. • -Students are expected to come in, unpack, and prepare for the day independently. Please drop them at the door. • -I expect them to sharpen two pencils, prepare book boxes, fill in their planner, and do morning work. • -Students are expected to listen to the announcements. We start calendar as soon the morning show is over. For safety procedures, this is not a time for conference. Thank you for understanding and e-mailing if you need to schedule one.

26. Homework • -Homework will be sent home weekly. A weekly homework packet will be sent out with your child on Friday. They are due the following Friday. • -Math homework will be sent home during the week. • -Homework should be limited to 30 minutes daily. If homework takes your child more than 30 minutes, please write a note. • -Independent Reading- We will have a reading log for you students to keep track of. Reading everyday is key ! • - When you get an assignment back, please look that it has been marked. No Mark= Mrs. Stone didn’t see it! • -Enrichment Assignments

27. Progress Reports • -Conference nights held 2 times a year- Student Led. • -Report cards-approximately every 9 weeks • -Progress Alerts sent out at the halfway point of the grading period if needed. • -Conferences can be held anytime during the school year at an agreed upon time and date.

28. Behavior Expectations and Uniforms • -Essential agreement • -Class Dojo • -MONKEY Binder or e-mail is the best form of communication. • -Uniforms are a red or green polo with khaki or navy bottoms. • No gym shorts, sweat pants, or leggings (without bottoms) • No Gray bottoms or yellow polos.

29. Supplies and Worldly Wise • -Thanks to all who have sent in supplies. • -Make sure you have supplies to use at home for homework. If you need something let me know • -Watch e-mail for special requests and wish list items. • -We will begin using Wordly Wise as soon as the order arrives. We will do some in class and some will come as homework and will be discussed in class. -Please make sure you have paid PTA

The Role of the IB Parent • Celebrate learning • Empower your student to value their learning and take responsibility for it • Allow students the opportunity to communicate their own progress • Support, encourage and foster the IB Attitudes and Learner Profile regularly and consistently • Report student action to teachers and encourage students to share their thoughts and ideas with the class and teacher.
