  1. The finished work of Jesus 1-8-11

  2. We talked last week about the events surrounding the words; “It is Finished”. • Darkness • “My God My God why have You forsaken me”? • “It is finished!” • The veil of the temple is torn from top to bottom • Earthquake so intense that rocks split • Graves are opened

  3. 7. Saints who are asleep are raised and appear to many. Today we are going to continue to study what the “it” means in, “it is finished”. 3 things we are working on Darkness Why have You forsaken Me Temple curtain splitting Last week we saw that darkness was a sign of God’s judgment.

  4. So we see darkness: Then the famous words “My God My God, why have you forsaken Me.” Then the words, “It is finished.” Then the temple curtain splits. In the next couple weeks we want to know, what, is finished by these three things. Gen 3:7) Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

  5. 8) And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 24) So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

  6. 19) In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” We had shame and the inability to stand as we once did in the presence of the Lord. Which results in death. How does the finished work of Christ fix this?

  7. It is finished! Rom 9:33 As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”

  8. 1Pet 2:6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” 1Cor 1:27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

  9. Also what is finished is our inability to be in God’s presence Ephesians 2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,

  10. Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Ephesians 3:11,12 11) according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.

  11. Life!!!! Rom 5:17) For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

  12. Rom 5:10) For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11) And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

  13. 2 Cor 5:18) Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19) that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
