The Mayo Abbey Community Council proudly recognized the outstanding achievements of local groups and individuals at the 2013 Rural Awards. Highlighting numerous community initiatives, including active retirement programs, childcare centers, and rural transport, the event emphasized the spirit of collaboration in enhancing community life. The ceremony, held at the recently inaugurated community housing and organic training center, was graced by President Mary McAleese, who commended the efforts of all involved in making Mayo Abbey a vibrant and sustainable community.
