  5. I WANT THAT GIFT!! • In the 1st Century • People were jealous • People were arrogant • 2014 • Wishing they had no gifts • “I can’t…I’m not good at that”

Romans 12:3-5 • For by the grace given to me I say to everyone of you: Do not think of yourselves more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourselves with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

  9. God Expects us to Perform • “I don’t have a gift” • You are calling God a liar • Maybe you just don’t know your gift • “I don’t want to use my gift” • You are being lazy AND defiant toward God

  10. Parable of the Talents Matt 25:14-30 • Talent was a large unit of weight – 75 pounds • 1 talent was 6,000 denarii or 6,000 days pay • 5 talents was a 100 years pay • 2 talents was 40 years pay • 1 talent was 20 years pay • There was an expectation by the master

  11. Points to Notice • Some have more talents than others • But EVERYONE has at least ONE • Every Christian has AT LEAST ONE gift • Are you using it? • Is it under the pew? • God is going to ask you what you did with it

  12. So What is Your Gift?

  13. Romans 12:6-8 • We have different gifts, according the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving to the needs of others, let him give generously, if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

  14. Prophecy • A spokesperson for someone (God) • Of all the spiritual gifts, this is the only miraculous • You have a gift in taking the word of God(Bible) and proclaiming it to people • Is that you?

  15. Serving • Similar to where we get the word Deacon • Some people have the ability to see what needs to be done and the skills to do what needs to be done • Is that you?

  16. Teaching • Similar to prophecy, but this person has the ability to compose an argument persuade someone logically • Great debater • Do you like indepth study? Are you good with words? Is this you?

  17. Encouraging • The teaching gift focuses on the logic while the encouraging gift focuses on the heart • Push you to actually do what you have learned • Is this you?

  18. Giving • Savvy when it comes to finances • They have a generous heart • Never hold back what they have • Is this you?

  19. Leadership • Ability to rally people • Inspire people • No fear of making tough choices • Not swayed by popular opinion • Is this you?

  20. Mercy • Literally means “to feel sympathy for” • Knowing when someone needs help and when they need space • Is this you?
