  2. What is Teaching Hospital Status? • A status conferred on a hospital trust by the senate of a University in recognition of a substantial commitment to teaching its medical students.

Benefits to the Trust • Defines standards of care & teaching at the highest level. • Commitment to training the next generation of doctors. • Attractive high calibre applicants for clinical appointments • Increase in research potential • Opportunities for joint academic posts with the University. • Opportunities for aligning research projects with the University. • Raises the Trust to same level as neighbouring trusts. • Step towards ‘University Status’

  5. Criteria Part 1 • Numbers – a minimum of 1000 student weeks. • At least one other health professional from the University. • Library, IT, internet access • Accommodation, common room, on call rooms • Tutorial facilities. • Supervisors • Assessors

  6. Criteria Part 2 • Clinical Sub Dean • Evaluation mechanisms • Responsiveness to problems/criticism • Collaboration in curriculum development • Ability to deliver curriculum • Support staff – administration • Teachers – Medical and others
