  2. AB-PO REX Power Supplies Integration Goals Over views Short term solutions Long term solutions Works in realizations Conclusions N.David - AB/PO/PH

  3. Goals Converter’s reliability Homogenize equipments Reducerepair time Simplify interventions Protect systems Protect peoples N.David - AB/PO/PH

  4. Over view - Converters • Complexity machine with few different elements. • 146 converters for 34 different types. • 2 family of converters (alimentation # amplifier). • Diversity of converters : 200V to 65kV and 2A to 350A. • Very little compatibility with ISOLDE or AB-PO. • Electrical distribution problems (lock, separate an equipment). • Location of some racks of converters (TRAP-EBIS). • 2 programmed references/acquisitions systems for EBIS, 1 for TRAP (ask an homogenization of control system). • Space for automates, exotic automates crates (control). N.David - AB/PO/PH

  5. Over View – Converters Spares 34 different types of converters 12 types with operational spares 35% of REX have spares : very bad N.David - AB/PO/PH

  6. Over View – Critically elements TRAP Section : - 8 Amplifiers REXTRAP +/-200V : no spare EBIS Section : - 1 Pulsed alimentation FUG 22kV => 60kV : no spare and broken once. - 2 Amplifiers TREK 601-4B +/-500 : no spare and broken once. SEPARATOR Section : - 1 Alimentation DC Bouhnik AF99032 (20V/60A). - 7 Alimentations Brandenburg 590 (+ et – 7.5kV). LINAC Section : - 19 Alimentations Danfysik 858 (160A, 180A, 200A et 220A => 4 # groups). - 4 Alimentations Danfysik 896 (±35V/±10A): 2 are broken (replaced by 1 Heidelberg). - 3 Alimentations Heidelberg (±20V/±2A) with same functions as Danfysik 896 - 1 Alimentation Bruker MN65/352 (65V=>350A) Control Section : - Automate crate are not same for all or are not in crate, few manufacturers… N.David - AB/PO/PH

  7. Short term solutions • A stock of spares/components must be created for critical elements : - Fug 22kV - 60kV EBIS : must obtain 1 spare for control crate or 1 additional converter (~23KCHF for control crate, 120KCHF for converter). Already, we have critical components for control crate. • Danfysik 858 : we must get sufficient spares of components/cards (~ 4KCHF) - Bouhnik AF99032 : a spare must be done with a Danfysik 896 model (~8KCH) or by an other way. - 2 TREK 601-4B : must be replaced by TREK 601-2C (~ 4x6.5KCHF) or by a modular system or a hybrid enclosed system (~8x2KCHF) - LMU REXTRAP : must create 1 spare module or be replaced by same modular system as TREK601-4B (~8x2KCHF) - Brandenburg + et – 7.5kV : 3 spares elements must be ordered (~4800 CHF) or be replaced by Heinzinger LNCE6000-1 model (~13x1KCHF) … • Tests benches must be created for tests and future repairs. N.David - AB/PO/PH

  8. Long term solutions • Converters types must be rationalized to AB-PO : - 4 crates with cards 24DC3500 : must be transformed in same type as ISOLDE (~4x3000CHF). - 12 Fug HCE-7 : type to be replaced by Fug HCN-7 type (~12x2300 CHF). - Spares for Fug HCE-35 must be ordered (~3x2500 CHF). - Danfysik 896/Heidelberg converter : we must choose 1 converter type and buy this type to replace the other type (?CHF). - 2 TREK 601-2C : be replaced by modular or hybrid system, same as TREK601-4B (~4x2KCHF). … • Electrical must be reorganized, ISOLDE distribution crates must be added for all racks (? 30KCHF). • Some converters must be delocalized, RA0 and Ion source converters, regroup free mounted converters of TRAP 3 crates & 2 converters (?CHF). • Some automates must be integrated in crates and a rationalization between crate must be done, with AB/CO group (?CHF). N.David - AB/PO/PH

  9. Works in realizations • Find and create denominations for new or unnamed REX elements, and doing modifications in order to label each converters. • Create stock of spares components/cards for critical converters. • Quote request/estimation for spare components or spare converters. • Find all documents in relation with REX converters. • Make test bench for modular converters : LNCE6000-1, DC24-35000, 700V, Brandenburg 590… • Investigate for replacement of TREKs low voltage and REXTRAP modules (searching for a common element). • Search for other possible solutions in future rationalization. … N.David - AB/PO/PH

  10. Conclusions • For exploitation : - Converters types must be reduced. - Standardization/rationalization of types. - Components/elements spares for all types. - Modifications must be scheduled. • Indispensable budget : - Converters are very expensive things. - Today, estimation is over 300 KCHF without control. - Costs for the modifications must be scheduled. • Necessary to modify, improve, standardize, reorganize or readapt controls interfaces according with AB/CO group. • All treatments must be invisible for the beam (increase performance and decrease complexity). Contribution to ameliorate the reliability of the REX machine N.David - AB/PO/PH
