  1. Turkey??? • Turkey day • Talk turkey • Bowl a turkey • Put on a turkey • Visit Turkey (Turkia) • And act like a turkey • Defined as naive, stupid, inept

  2. Don’t be a turkey Be thankful

  3. Jesus thought thanks was worth giving Luke 17:11-19 11 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14 When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

  4. Daniel thought so too Daniel 6:10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.

  5. Paul thought thanks was worth sharing 1 Corinthians 14:16 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. 16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying?  Our thanks should shine like a light, give a “salt” flavor

  6. Un-thankfulness is the first step down Romans 1:21-24 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking/speculation (NASV), and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools,23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up… • Lacking humble thanks they became speculative • With a foolish heart they professed wisdom • And honored the creation rather than the Creator

  7. Thanks SHOULD abound Colossians 2:6-7 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.   Abounding is defined as exceeding a fixed measure, excel, be great, overflow

  8. Abounding is defined as exceeding a fixed measure, excel, be great, overflow Abounding… Philippians 4:6-7 …do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing,18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  9. Abounding is defined as exceeding a fixed measure, excel, be great, overflow Abounding… Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. 20

  10. Abounding for all men… 1 Timothy 2:1-4 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. Abounding is defined as exceeding a fixed measure, excel, be great, overflow

  11. Abounding for brothers… 2 Thessalonians 1:3 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. Abounding is defined as exceeding a fixed measure, excel, be great, overflow

  12. Abounding for the relationship that we have in Christ’s salvation… 2 Corinthians 9:15 13 By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission flowing from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, 14 while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. 15 Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! Abounding is defined as exceeding a fixed measure, excel, be great, overflow

  13. God desires the fruit of our lips Colossians 4:2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. Ephesians 5:19 …addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  Hebrews 13:15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

  14. It is not what we say about our blessings but how we use them that is the true measure of our thanksgiving. - W.T. Purkiser God’s child has a thousand things to be thankful for. Have you been?
