  2. Why this event is special The 16th of September was the day that the Mexicans got their independents from the Spanish people.

  3. DAY OF EVENT Mexican Independence Day is a special event started in the year 1823 on the 16th of September. It is one of the most famous festivals in Mexico, and is celebrated on the night of September 15th and all day on September 16th.

  4. The celebration At 11:00 pm on the 15th of September the president of Mexico rings the bell at the national palace in Mexican city. When he rings the bell and repeats something called a-grito-mexicano and the names of the heroes of the Mexican war of independence. This is what he says, “Mexicans Long live the heroes that gave us the father land Long live Hidalgo Long live Morelos Long live josefa ortiz de Dominguez Long live Allendek Long live Galena and the Bravos Long live Aldama and Matamoros Long live National Independence Long live Mexico Long live Mexico Long live Mexico” Then he rings the bell again and wave the flag of Mexico and then the national anthem is sung to the military band.

  5. The celebration • On the day of the fiesta/party there are lots of stalls that sell food, confetti, whistles ,horns and toys. There are also parades, fireworks, rodeos, bullfights and lots of music and dancing.

  6. Special clothes • Lots and lots and lots of colour. • women- skirts, capes, tunics in lots of colourful embroidery. • Men-trousers shirts, capes and boots • Both male and females wear sombreros.

Special foods • Some of the traditional foods of mexico are- • Ponche- a punch of fruits like guava apples and raisins • Queso fundido-melted cheese dip with garlic and chilli • Guacamole-avocado dip • Menudo-stew from beef, garlic, onion, tripe, corn kernels, lime and cilantro • Spit roast-variety of meats • Candies- marzipan, almond flavoured sugar candy, often candy is flavoured with chilli

  9. Special music • During festivals they listen to all sorts of music including songs with trombones, guitars, Mexican drums, tubas and trumpets.

  10. SPECIAL DECORATIONS Special decorations: People decorate their houses and cars with Mexican flags, flowers and lots of green white and red lights.
