  2. Introduction • Hannah Senesh was a very important character. • She wrote lots of famous poems and songs. • Hannah Senesh was a very brave person. • This is the story of Hannah Senesh’s life.

  3. The Young years

  4. Hannah senesh was born • Hannah Senesh was born on July 17, 1921 in Budapest, Hungary. Hannah had a brother named George, a dad named Bela, and a mom named Catherine. Her dad died when she was only six. Hannah started a diary when she was thirteen. She had special literary talents.

  5. Hannah joins the Haganah • In 1939, Hannah immigrated to Israel. • She studied agriculture, and two years later joined Kibbutz S’dot Yam. • She continued to write many poems. • In 1942 she joined the Haganah and volunteered to return to Hungary to organize and arm the Jewish resistance against the Nazis.

The death of a young Jewish heroine of • Hannah parachuted into Yugoslavia to join the fighters against the Nazis. • When the Nazis captured her and put her in prison, they tortured her so that they could get secret information out of her. In the end, she never gave away any information. Her trial was held October 28th 1944. • On November 7,1944 at the age of 24, Hannah Senesh was killed.

  7. Poem before the trial was held One, two, three eight feet long two strides across, the rest is dark life hangs over me like a question mark. One, two, three Maybe another week, Or next month may still find me here But death, I feel, is very near. I could have been twenty-threenext July; I gambled on what mattered most, the dice were cast. I lost.

  8. Letter before jumping out of an airplane “My friends of Kibbutz Caesarea, by sea, by land, in war and in peace, we are all marching for one purpose. Each one must do their duty. I will keep all of you in my memory. This will give me strength. Warm best wishes. Hannah”
