Introduction to the Project • The purpose of this project is to: • Provide introductory insight into how modern health care has been shaped in our country • Describe the evolution of American health policy, show that our current state was, perhaps, largely unplanned, and exemplify how significantly policy is affected by politics • Provide perspective • Now is not the first time our country has endured significant health care changes

Modern Milestones (topics) Covered • Formation of Blue Cross and Blue Shield • Evolution of Kaiser-Permanente • The AMA’s defeat of Truman’s health care reform • Evolution of employer-based health insurance • LBJ and the creation of Medicare • Radiology’s inclusion in Medicare Part B • The defeat of the Clinton administration’s health care reform proposal • PPACA and its effect on radiology • Present-day, state-level universal coverage initiatives in Massachusetts and Vermont
