  1. Amina’s Experiment Barbara Matthews 7th grade Science Educator Jacobs Fork Middle School Newton, North Carolina

  2. Amina’s Experiment • List all of the steps of the Scientific Method and LIST (in sentence form if possible) the steps (ALL SIX) of Amina’s experiment. Step 1 Make an observation, ask a question. Amina made an observation about her father’s geranium plants.

  3. Amina’s Experiment Step 2 Form a hypothesis Amina thought that if plants were watered less, then they would produce more flowers. Step 3 Make a plan/Test your hypothesis Amina made a list of her materials and made a step-by-step plan to carry out her experiment and make a chart to collect the data. Step 4 Analyze your results Amina made a graph of her results.

  4. Amina’s Experiment Step 5 Draw a Conclusion Amina concluded that as the amount of water given decreased, the number of flowers increased. Amina’s hypothesis was supported. Step 6 Communicate your Results Amina needs to share her findings with her teacher and her classmates. Any other suggestions?

  5. Amina’s Experiment 2. Name at least 2 other constants in Amina’s experiment. Two constants in Amina’s experiment were the same sized plants, the same sized pots, same amount of sunshine because of where placed on a table, same amount of water given at each scheduled watering.

  6. Amina’s Experiment 3. What is the independent variable in Amina’s experiment? The independent variable in Amina’s experiment is the number of waterings per week given to the plants.

  7. Amina’s Experiment 4. What is the dependent variable in Amina’s experiment? The dependent variable in Amina’s experiment is the number of flowers produced by each group of plants.

  8. Amina’s Experiment 5. What is the progression in the results of Amina’s experiment shown in Figure 1-6? In other words, what is the cause and effect statement? In Amina’s experiment, if you decrease the number of waterings per week, then the number of flowers produced increases. (If you increase the number of waterings per week, then the number of flowers produced decreases.)
