  2. Promotion Criteria from Sec 4N(A) to Sec 5N(A) Criteria • EL ≤ 5 • MA ≤ 5 • EL+Maths+Best 3 Subjects ≤ 19 • i.e EMB3 ≤ 19

  3. Example A pupil with following results: English (4) Math (2) Science (2) Humanities (4) Chinese (U) D & T (5) - Will have an EMB3 aggregate of 17

  4. Progression from 4 N(A) Junior College/ Centralised Institute 3 Yrs Polytechnic Institute of Education Sec 5N(A) (EMB3 ≤ 19) (EMB3 >19) Sec 4N(A) Based on student’s GCE ‘N’ Level examination results

  5. New Direct Pathways for Sec 4N(A) • Recognises that vast majority of N(A) students will be progressing to applied and market-oriented post-secondary programmes at the polytechnics or the Institute of Technical Education

New Direct Pathways for Sec 4N(A) • Sec 4N(A) students who do well in their ‘N‘ Levels can either join the Polytechnic Foundation Programme or ITE’s Higher National ITE Certificate (Higher Nitec) course directly. 3 Yrs Polytechnic 3 Yrs Polytechnic Junior College/ Centralised Institute 2 Yrs Polytechnic 1 Yr Foundation Prog 2 yrs ITE Direct Entry Scheme (DES) to Higher Nitec Direct Entry Sec 5N(A) Sec 4N(A) Based on student’s GCE ‘N’ Level examination results

  9. New Direct Pathways for Sec 4N(A) The Polytechnic Foundation Programme This offers a practice-oriented programme to better prepare polytechnic-bound N(A) students into relevant Diploma Courses Pupils must have sat for their GCE Secondary 4 NA Examinations.

  10. Polytechnic Foundation Programme This provides an alternative to the Sec 5 year. Offered by all 5 Polytechnics. FP Programme students are given provisional places in diploma programmes subject to them passing all the modules in the one-year polytechnic FP

Criteria for Polytechnic Foundation Course Criteria • EMB3 ≤ 11 • provided also that • EL ≤ 3 • MA ≤ 3 • (certain courses also requires all other subjects ≤ 3) • (about 70% of Poly courses will be offered) Bonus points will be awarded for good CCA grades, which can be used in computing the EMB3 for selection and posting to FP course)

New Direct Pathways for Sec 4N(A) • Sec 4N(A) students who do well in their ‘N‘ Levels can enter join the Polytechnic Foundation Programme or ITE’s Higher National ITE Certificate (Higher Nitec) course directly. 3 Yrs Polytechnic 3 Yrs Polytechnic Junior College/ Centralised Institute 2 Yrs Polytechnic 1 Yr Foundation Prog 2 yrs ITE Direct Entry Scheme to Higher Nitec 10 weeks preparatory course Direct Entry Sec 5N(A) Sec 4N(A) Based on student’s GCE ‘N’ Level examination results

  13. New Direct Pathways for Sec 4N(A) DPP Programme (Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic) This builds on the ITE Direct-Entry-Scheme (DES) introduced in 2008 Benefits students who do well in their N levels with hands-on and experiential learning at ITE in the higher-Nitecprogramme

  14. Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic (DES-to-Poly) Graduates from the DES intake will be assured either of a First-Year or Second Year place in a related Polytechnic Diploma Course, provided they achieve the qualifying ITE Grade point average (GPA)

Criteria for DES-to-Poly (DPP) Course Criteria • EMB3 ≤ 19 • provided also that • EL ≤ 4 • MA ≤ 4 • For Applied Sciences, Engineering and Infocomm Tech Higher Nitec Programmes Bonus points will be awarded for good CCA grades, which can be used in computing the EMB3 for selection and posting to DES course)

  17. Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic (DES-to-Poly) Qualifying GPA • Applied Sciences, Engineering, ICT Higher Nitec • 2.5 raw pts – Assured First Year related Poly Course • 3.5 raw pts – Assured Second Year related Poly Course • Business & Services Higher Nitec • 3.0 raw pts - Assured First Year related Poly Course (Pupils should check with respective polytechnics for further details)
