  3. Prepositions Prepositions tell where objects are located. Can you name any? • Devant– in front of • Derrière – behind • À gauche (de) – to the left (of) • À droite (de) – to the right (of) • Près (de) – near (to) • Loin (de) – far (from) • Entre – between • Dans– in • À côté (de) – next to • Sur – on • Sous – under Don’t forget that “de” makes contractions with definite articles!!!

Possessive Adjectives • ALL ADJECTIVES must AGREE with the noun they describe in what two ways? • GENDER (masculine vs. Feminine) & NUMBER (singular vs. plural) • When you wish to show possession of an object without using de + name, you must use possessive adjectives. • You must make AGREEMENT with the OBJECT that is being owned NOT the person who owns it. • What are the English possessive adjectives? MINE!

  5. Pointing Adjectives • What type of adjective points out a specific object/person? • Demonstrative adjective = this, that, these, those • What type of adjective asks about a specific object/person? • Interrogative adjective = which, what

  6. Demonstrative Adjectives ***to distinguish between this one over here and that one over there, the French add –ci and –là after the noun -Il aime cette chemise-ci. Elle préfère cette chemise-là.
