  1. PHYSICS Types of Semiconductor By Dongare D.G.

  2. Semiconductor • A semiconductor material has an electrical conductivity value in between that of a conductor, such as metallic copper, and an insulator, such as glass. Its resistance falls as its temperature rises

  3. Semiconductor in Everyday life

  4. Crystal structure of atom

  5. The most widely used semiconductor materials are Silicon and germanium.

  6. Structure of Silicon silicon is a chemical element with the symbol Si and atomic number 14.

  7. Structure of germanium

  8. Classification of Semiconductors

  9. Classification of Semiconductor • Intrinsic Semiconductor: Highly pure semiconductor are called intrinsic semiconductor.

  10. Extrinsic semiconductor • The semiconductor in which impurity present is called extrinsic semiconductor

  11. Extrinsic semiconductor There are two types of extrinsic semiconductors 1.P- type semiconductor When the trivalent impurity is added to an intrinsic or pure semiconductor (silicon or germanium), then it is said to be a P-type semiconductor. Trivalent impurities such as Boron (B), Gallium (Ga), Indium(In), Aluminium(Al) etc are called acceptor impurity.

  12. 2.N-type semiconductor • When a small amount of Pentavalent impurity is added to a pure semiconductor providing a large number of free electrons in it, the extrinsic semiconductor thus formed is known as n-Type Semiconductor • The examples of pentavalent impurities are Phosphorus (P), Arsenic (As), Antimony (Sb).

  13. Summary • Classification semiconductor • Structure of an atom. • P- Type semiconductor • N -Types of Semiconductor. • Applications Semiconductor.

  14. Question Bank • What is an atom? • Explain classification Semiconductor. • Define intrinsic semiconductor. • Define extrinsic semiconductor • What is P-type semiconductor? • What is N-type semiconductor?
