  2. Energy First impression..It’s a normal resort!

  3. Energy To maintain the resort cool, most vertical walls and roofs are used to grow vines.  winter melon

  4. Water Water tanks are used in the resort, especially during the dry season.Water from air conditioning is recycled. Up to 1000lt is produced per day in dry season.

  5. Water All grey water is collected and filtered through beneficial bacteria (algae) and plants. The water is channelled via gravity through a series of plants to be purified.

  6. Water Stage 1:Pandan plant - water is collected from the resort sewage system.

  7. Water Stage 2:Water mimosa – excess of nitrogen and phosphorous are taken up by the mimosa.

  8. Water Stage 3:Water Hycinth – this plant helps maintain the BOD to a low level.

  9. Water Stage 4:Water is purified and analysed twice a year.

  10. Water Extraordinary Results!The water is now rated Grade A. It’s as good as drinking water!

  11. Water Obviously they do not drink it but…they grow all sorts of water veggies for the resort. The pond is now a perfect habitat for Tilapiaand guppy fish.1. Water mimosa (yummie fritters but a weed in QLD)2. Taro3. Water spinach (Kangkong)

  12. Sustainability All waste material produced by the resort stays on site. Green waste is composted.

  13. Sustainability All other organic material is heat composted.

  14. Sustainability Waste materials are re-used by the resort artist for sculptures, pots, etc. Aluminium and cardboard are sold to a recycle centre. Glass is the only non-recyclable material in Langkawi.

  16. Self-sufficiency Some interesting plants and their uses: Pandan or Screwpine Leaves can be broken up and used to prepare refreshing juice and to infuse vanilla scent to cakes & rice dishes. Diuretic properties + good tonic for the skin.

  17. Self-sufficiency Calamansi (or Calamondin) Lime Shrub or small tree. Fruits all year round. The green lime fruit is used to make excellent juice and fish marinade. Antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties.

  18. Self-sufficiency King Salad (or Ulam or Cosmos Caudatus) Malay food medicine. It is believed that this plant contains anti aging properties, it tones up blood circulation, strengthens the bones and promotes fresh breath.

  19. Self-sufficiency Piper Chaba (Piperaceae) Creeper from Black Pepper family. Leaves are used to wrap fish for steaming , or eaten raw in salads. Believed to be anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhoeal, good for arthritis, asthma and bronchitis.

  20. Self-sufficiency Kangkong (Water Spinach) Aquatic/ semiaquatic plant. Leaves and stalks used in stir fries. Rich in iron, calcium, phosphorus, carotene, vitamins A, B1 and C and has a lot of health beneficial amino acids. 

  21. Self-sufficiency Moringa (Drumstick Tree) Tree against malnutrition. Leaves and pods are edible being a significant source of B vitamins, Vitamin C, beta-carotene, vitamin K and manganese. Tree is draught tolerant.
