  2. 1 John 2:15-17 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

  3. 1 Peter 5:6-10 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

  4. Enemies From Within • Lust of the Eyes – When we look at something lustfully or wrongfully. When we use our eyes to sin. When we covet someone else’s stuff. • Lust of the Flesh – When we allow good gifts from God to be unbalanced in our lives. When we allow our bodies to rule over us. When we serve our bodies instead of God. • Pride of Life – When we seek to control our lives, our destiny, think we own possessions, and usurp God’s place and authoirty.

  5. Outward Enemies • World System – the whole fallen world is tainted by sin. Although we live in the world, we are not of the world. We live with unbelievers, but we are not unbelievers. • Satan – His name comes from the Hebrew word for “Adversary.” His many names prove to us that he is anti-God, directly and vehemently opposed to God in every way. • Demons – They help Satan in his quest to destroy God’s good plan and people.

  6. God is Greater • God is Sovereign over evil • God has already won • We can overcome through God’s power in us • We need not fear demons or evil powers • We need not talk to them or give them any space in our lives • We must resist the devil and demons, and stand on the strong name of Jesus
