Resolving MC and Data Discrepancies in TOF: Proposed Changes and Testing Insights

The presentation addresses discrepancies between Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and data in the Time-of-Flight (TOF) system, highlighting proposed solutions. The suggested modification involves changing the default setting of gMC to SetMaxNStep, following tests by Andreas. Preliminary results using PYTHIA in LHC13e2 showcased issues stemming from hard-coded settings in AliTPCv classes. Further local testing is essential with AliESDs.root, while GRID tests remain unviable due to these limitations. Collaboration is encouraged, and contacts for detector software leads are requested for continued discussions.

  1. MC and data discrepancy in TOF Indranil Das

  2. Reported problem See detail in link : https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=273104 Presentation by Francesco Noferini Run : 137161

  3. Proposed solution Change the default setting gMC->SetMaxNStep() proposed by Andreas and already tested in TPC, but hard-coded in AliTPCv(2/3/4).cxx classes. Sample test runs only for MC+GEANT hits using PYTHIA setup as in LHC13e2 using local AliRoot v5-05-20-AN for different MaxNStep setting.

  4. Outlook Local testing needed with AliESDs.root (GRID test not possible since it is hard coded) So far testing on lxpluscrashed. As suggestion by Ruben to check the phi distribution is yet to be checked. We need email contacts of individual detector software responsible for further discussions and similar problems
