  5. R.F.P’s and Proposals • The R.F.P. contains a S.O.W – Statement of Work • Proposals are selected because they meet the requirements in the R.F.P. • Or, bring needed elements to the project. • Decisions are made to choose best proposal BUS 4017-Week 3

Good Proposals • Writing good proposals is a learned skill. • They are presented in a competitive environment • It is a sales document-demonstrates meeting the customer’s needs. • Contains, technical, management and cost sections. • Final Contracts are based on proposal provisions. • Gido and Clements P. 51 BUS 4017-Week 3

  7. Project selection • Non financial reasons • Financial reasons. Payback time Payback % of return Net Present Value. • Weighted decision model – a mixture of different criteria. Ref: Gido and Clements P. 62 and the Case on P. 71 BUS 4017-Week 3

  8. Weighted Decision Matrix • Set the criteria. • Assign weights. Must = 100% • Set the range. Upper and lower limits • Compare projects/options to criteria and range. • Post scores and multiply factors. Gido and Clements. P. 62. However, we will use the F. Pentney Matrix. BUS 4017-Week 3

Review • You don’t need to go through the R.F.P/Proposal process to start a project – but you would or larger or “formal” projects. • You can go straight to Definition stage of a project and work out the details with Stakeholders. • Either way you “Define” and in the Definition is a Statement of Work.   13. S.O.W. The Charter – Formal recognition Endorsed by the Sponsor or Customer Defines the authority Defines the project in broad terms Key players including the Project Mgr. It is a one time announcement BUS 4017-Week 3
