Project Overview • “Reverse Geocache” Box • Locked box that will only open after one or more pre-determined GPS locations have been visited • Directs user to next location by GPS coordinates, compass heading, or text description displayed on LCD. • Route stored on microSD card located inside the box, able to be reprogrammed by PC • RFID “master key” to allow access to box without finishing puzzle

PSSCs • An ability to obtain and decode global positioning data in order to verify if current location matches pre-determined desired location. • An ability to utilize accelerometer and magnetometer data to determine a compass heading with tilt compensation. • An ability to access and interpret files located on a microSD card. • An ability to display information to the user via an LCD display. • An ability to identify an RFID tag using an RFID reader.

U.S. Patent 6,932,698 • Treasure hunt game utilizing wireless communications devices and location positioning technology • Claims: • A method of playing a game, from start to finish • Using GPS equipped wireless communication device • To determine the location of the said device • To retrieve messages based on location and other participants via wireless communication from a server • Display new information to guide user to destination • Difference from 6,320,495 • Included other means of location positioning not present • OTD, RTD, AOA, TOA or cell-ID

  7. U.S. Patent 6,320,495 & 6,932,698 • Possible Infringement: • Literal? No. • Doctrine of Equivalents? Maybe. • The patents and RevGeo use GPS to locate position • For the patents, information, such as destination and distance, is transmitted wirelessly • RevGeocalculates distance on-chip and contains stored destinations; no wireless transmitting is required • Also, RevGeo doesn’t communicate among other devices

U.S. Patent 7,946,919 • Method, system and apparatus for location-based gaming • Claims: • Method to display information on an electronic display • Determine location of device using GPS • Determine distance between user and a target with a ranging device • Transmits information to server to retrieve more data • Essentially, a computerized game in the physical space (i.e.- multiplayer game using computers but outside)

  9. U.S. Patent 7,946,919 • Possible Infringements: • Literal? No. • Doctrine of Equivalents? Maybe. • The patent and RevGeo uses GPS to determine geographical location • The patent transmits the location to a centralized location in order to retrieve information regarding the game
