  3. Unit2: Warm-up In your mind, what kind of people are heroes?

  5. policemen & policewomen

  7. sports stars

  8. film stars

  9. history makers

  10. Now it’s time to tell the class about your heroes or heroines!

  11. Think of different kinds of heroes and heroines: • a) a sports or film star you personally admire Yao Ming

  12. b) someone famous for bravery or goodness. Mother Teresa (1910-1997) Mother Teresa was a nun who devoted all her life to helping the poor and sick in India.

  13. c) the main character from a story Hamlet Hamlet is the sensitive and indecisive hero of Shakespeare’s play. To be or not to be, that’s a question.

  14. Now write three sentences about some film heroes and heroines that you know well and read them to your group. Use the Key Words to help you. Eg: Scar is a cruel and dangerous character in Lion King. Key Words Classify the key words as positive or negative. positive: brave, calm, generous, honest, humorous, kind, smart pleasant negative: cruel, violent dangerous

  15. Listen to descriptions of the film characters. Match them with the following adjectives. a) smart but cruel and violent b) brave and humorous c) pleasant and humorous

  16. You are going to hear about the following characters: Nemo Finding Nemo

  17. Bright Jones Bridget Jones’s Diary

  18. Spider-manⅡ Dr. Octopus

  19. Writing • In groups, pleas write a character description of a well-known film or television actor without saying who he/she is. • Then exchange your description with another group and try to guess who is being described.

  20. He is a well-known film star . He is from Hong Kong. He is not very tall but strong and brave. His action is humorous and funny. He is famous as Chinese kung Fu. Who can it be? Cheng long

  21. Voice your opinion • What do you think of the unsung hero or heroine who is an ordinary person who regularly does heroic things but will never become famous, e.g. police, fire fighters, mountain rescue teams.
