Beyond the walls of formal places of learning, there is a plethora of online groups of individuals that are self-directed, vital, self-managed and active in the generation of new ideas, and that are compelling examples of thriving knowledge creating communities, open to all who wish to participate. McLoughlin and Lee (2007)

  3. Web-based, voice-based e-Learning tool Conversation Practice Collaborative Projects Oral Presentations Talkgroups can be public, restricted or entirely private.

  4. How to Use Voxopop with Students Story Telling You can record the first sentence of a story and then ask students to listen to the thread and add a sentence each to the story. Discussions You can record a series of controversial statements and ask students for their views on them.

  5. Pronunciation practice Record some pronunciation drills and get students to listen to them and then record themselves repeating the words or sentences. Dictations Record your own online dictation texts and get the students to listen to the text, and write down what they hear. As a follow up activity, get them to record their own version of the text for you and their peers to listen to.

  6. True/false statements Record some statements about yourself and get students to leave questions for you to establish which of the statements are true. You could allow students a specific period of time to leave questions for you to answer, then in class you can get them to tell you which statements are true or false. As a follow up activity students could create their own true/false statements and ask each other questions about them.
