  5. Why donate? To save lives of course This is Skyler. He has been battling leukemia since 2010 and by April 2012 he had over 185 blood transfusions. “185 strangers out there have helped save his life. Words can’t express how grateful I am for those people who took the time to donate.” –Crystal (Skyler’s Mom)

  6. EVERY DONATION HELPS A PATIENT. IT IS PART OF ARUP’s DEDICATION TO PATIENT CARE. “My son, Alexander, was born September 22, 2006. He was born with several congenital heart defects. He had his first open heart surgery at the age of 7 days old. He has had several blood transfusions throughout his short life due to all of the surgeries. The blood that my little guy receives comes directly from ARUP Blood Services. ARUP Blood Services supplies the blood that the patients at Primary Children’s Medical Center need for the patients there. Without the many wonderful people that donate their blood, my son, and many other children would not be alive today. Alex has had as many as 20 transfusions to date, and he is only 3 years old. He still has more heart surgeries ahead of him. I really wish that I could hug each and every person who has donated to ARUP; you have given him the gift of life. Without your donations, Alex wouldn’t be here today. Please take a few minutes out of your schedule, and donate blood to ARUP Blood Services. It isn’t painful; it doesn’t take long and you will save lives in the process!”— Krista, 04/25/10

  7. Blood can only be obtained from a healthy adult. That is why donating blood is so important. Blood helps fight infection and heal wounds. It delivers nutrients, oxygen, and heat to tissues and organs. It also carries waste to the lungs, liver, and kidneys..

  8. WORKING AT ARUP MAKES IT EASY TO DONATE Ever since I started at ARUP 12 years ago I have been a donor. Seeing all the people who your donations help really makes the job even more rewarding. -Candace Thomas (transfusion services) I went and donated blood in the middle of my shift. It was great to get a break from working and I even got paid to relax for a little while. It makes you feel good to know that you can help people in several different ways by being an ARUP employee and a donor. -Randi Mason (blood services)
