  1. The Dark knight Thriller Conventions

  2. Crime at the Core One thriller convention is having crime at the core of the narrative. Often murder but can be any major crime. The Dark knight starts with a bank robbery and is riddled with Murders, this is a good example of crime at the core. This is a very effective way to open a thriller as this grips the person watching, as it is all action and for a normal person an extreme act that we do not normally see.

  3. A False path Another key thriller convention is when there is a complex narrative structure, with false paths, clues and resolutions. An example of this is when the bank robbers are unaware that the joker is performing the bank robbery with them. This works well because it surprises the viewer and makes them resistant to trust there first instinct in the film, this keeps them on edge and keeps them guessing.

  4. Narrative establishing Enigmas A narrative pattern of establishing enigmas which the viewer expects to be resolved. An example of this is evident right from the outset as the bank robbers incur a enigma straight away with one of the bank managers pulling a gun on them. This is effective as it gets the audience to ask questions in there head, for example, why is he firing back and how will the jokers solve this problems.

  5. Voyeurism Voyeurism is featured a lot in the opening sequence of the ‘Dark Knight’, it is when someone is watching another character without there knowledge. An example of this is when one man wearing the mask is disabling the alarm and another is standing behind him with a gun towards the back of his head.
