Setting the scene • WBCCG (NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan) • aims to commission the delivery of better and more responsive health services and improve the health of local people in the area. • holds the NHS budget for our local population of approximately 310,000 people. • going through a period of transition • need to create lasting legacy within the new establishing bodies New Facility - Wigan Life Centre

  3. Employee Demographics • 201.19 WTE • Approx 29% of employees are aged 35 and under • Approx 23% of employees are aged 51 and over • Over 72% of employees are women • 25.41% of employees work less than full time hours

Why health and wellbeing is important for our staff • Part of the NHS constitution • Implementation of Boorman review • Exemplar organisation • Recognise that health effects work & work effects health • Links between staff health, well-being & key quality indicators • Challenging £ times = Opportunities • QIPP • Demonstrable links between health and well-being, sickness absence, staff morale and productivity • every £1 spent on health and wellbeing, a return on investment of between £2.50 and £34 can be achieved (PricewaterhouseCoopers’2008)

Staff wellbeing survey results summary • 49 % response rate • 87.7 % rate their health as ‘very good’ or ‘good’ • 83.7 % said if they noticed anything unusual about their own body which had latest for 3 weeks they would contact their GP • 6.1 % smoke daily, 3.1 % smoke occasionally • 25.5% have an alcoholic drink 3+ days a week • 22.4 % staff have done a total of 30 mins of Physical Activity 5+ days a week
