  1. Introductions • Name • Hometown • Content Area? • What is the best/worse example of technology in the classroom you can remember. • Finish this sentence– Good teaching is about…

  2. Goals of this Course • Challenge your Thinking • Empower you as ‘Change Agents’ • Give you insight into the Real World of Teaching– from an “in the trenches” perspective • Seamlessly model technology integration and best practice methodologies • Expose you to top technology using educators in the field. • Expose you to a wide variety of technology tools and applications.

  3. Syllabus • Still designing- but we will usethis wiki as homebase and Blackboard http://techenhancedlearning.wikispaces.com/ • Course Design • Mondays will be virtual • Wednesday’s will be f2f • Except for March 19 and March 21 (you will meet in the Ford classroom and the studios at the media center with Karen Richardson) for a Podcasting and Digital video class

  4. What Does Virtual Monday Mean? We have several virtual type meetings. • Sometimes we will meet synchronously in Elluminate http://snip.com/Elluminate and have a guest speaker. • Sometimes we will meet asynchronously in Tapped In, the wiki, moodle etc… • Sometimes you will meet via smaller groups or use Monday’s to create digital media.

  5. Techno-Constructivism • Use of information by an educator through computer technology that goes beyond comfort and fluency. A Techno-Constructivist is one who empowers others to use technology to develop a deeper understanding of a subject area using technology. The burden is shifted from the teacher to the learner and the instructor becomes more of a coach and evaluator, than a presenter. The teaching style shifts toward a project-based learning domain.

  6. Techno-Constructivism “…technologies are more effectively used as tools to construct with…technology is a tool to think and learn with (p.iii).” D.H. Jonassen, K.L. Peck, & W.G. Brent

  7. Techno-Constructivism • Technology doesn’t teach students. Rather, learners use technology to teach themselves and others. • Technology allows learners to engage in: • Knowledge construction, not reproduction • Production not consumption • Articulation not repetition

  8. Questions? Comments? Concerns?
