  1. A man and his cornet Members of The Salvation Army often play music to express their Christian beliefs and to worship God. They also use singing, drama, dance and art in worship.

  2. A woman sitting on a bucket Every year The Salvation Army has an Annual Appeal. Money is sometimes collected in buckets like this. Without this money The Salvation Army couldn’t help people who are in need.

  3. A fireman When there is an emergency, such as a major fire or crash, The Salvation Army gives hot drinks and food to emergency workers and victims. They also talk to people and comfort them.

  4. A man sleeping on the street For more than 100 years, The Salvation Army has been helping homeless people. They don’t just give out food and clothes, they also help people to deal with any problems, learn new skills and get off the streets and into a proper home.

  5. A child leaning on the Bible The Salvation Army’s beliefs and work are based on the Bible. Its members follow Jesus and his teaching. Children and adults read the Bible to find out how God wants them to live.

  6. An elderly woman hanging off a zimmer frame Sometimes it can be lonely when you reach old age. Salvation Army ministers visit elderly people who find it hard to go out, to see how they are and to show they are loved and cared for.

  7. A woman pushing a mouse At its head office in London, The Salvation Army has a Family Tracing Service. The people who work there help to find family members that have gone missing and can’t be found. They reunite more than 3000 families every year.

  8. A woman holding up a copy of ‘The War Cry’ This is one of The Salvation Army’s newspapers. It sells more than 50,000 copies every week. This helps to raise money for their work in the community.

  9. A little girl holding her teddy bear’s hand Lots of Salvation Army churches and centres have parent-and-toddler groups and other activities and services for families. The Salvation Army believes that helping families is important.

  10. A teenager holding the globe The Salvation Army is an international church and charity. They work in more than 120 countries around the world.

  11. An elderly man diving into soup Many Salvation Army centres have lunch clubs which serve meals for people who find it difficult to cook for themselves. There is also a special meal on Christmas Day for people with no other family.

  12. A skater girl Children and young people are very important in The Salvation Army. They take part in worship and have their own activities, like youth clubs and summer camps.
