  2. Facts about poor Tudor food • Most poor people ate pottage • Pottage is a stew made using oats and vegetables • They never ate potatoes • They lit fires with coal • They believed they shouldn’t eat fruit raw

  3. The people in Tudor times ate lots of sweets and they coloured the sweets with vegetable dye. They had really big plants.

  4. They used salt to preserve their food. They ate lots of biscuits and cheese and the poor people ate from wooden bowls. Poor people could only afford ginger at Christmas.

  5. A Tudor gingerbread biscuit was very expensive. Most poor people would not make biscuits like this except as a Christmas treat. In the kitchen villagers used metal cauldrons and other cooking pots.

  6. The poor people never ate exotic food because they couldn’t afford it. The poor people usually ate bread or porridge for breakfast. They had large fireplaces to allow traditional cooking to take place.

  7. Facts about rich people in Tudor times The rich people ate a lot of meat like bacon, salt pork and chickens. The rich people had 75 kitchens cooking at once. The rich people ate a lot of food. They locally caught deer, boar and rabbit. Some people ate tongue.

  9. ROYAL FEASTS • Royal feast consisted of many dishes. • People usually had at least 10 portions. • Each portion was massive • Poor people got the remains of a big feast.

  10. FOODFORPOORPEOPLE THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD FOR POOR PEOPLE WAS BREAD THEN CAME CHEESE NEXT CAME MILK AND ANY MEAT THEY ATE WOULD BE BACON. POTTAGE IS LIKE A STEW MADE FROM NETTLES AND PLANTS.

  12. HENRY VIII’S PUBLIC DINING HALL IN HENRY’S PUBLIC DINING HALL 300 PEOPLE WOULD EAT AT ONCE AT 10:00AM THEN ANOTHER 300 PEOPLE WOULD EAT AT 4:00PM BECAUSE THEY ONLY HAD TWO MEALS IN ONE DAY.

  13. TUDOR KITCHENS The kitchens that King Henry VIII had were so massive that people sometimes got lost in them. Poor people only had one kitchen which they slept in as well. Poor people didn’t have an oven so they had to take their food to the baker’s.
