  1. Facts of State • The Department of States was created in 1789 and is the oldest of all cabinet level agencies in the Executive Branch • This department has more than 34,000 employees worldwide

  2. Purpose of State The purpose of this department is to build and sustain a more democratic, secure, and prosperous world. It is also to respond to the needs of their people by reducing widespread poverty, and to act responsibly within the international system

  3. The Secretary of State is the President’s chief foreign affairs advisor. This includes the Foreign Service, Civil Service, and U.S. Agency for International Development. Currently, our Secretary of State is John Kerry, who was inaugurated on February 1st, 2013. Secretary of State

  7. Basic Information • The department of treasury was created September 2, 1789. • The treasury has over 100,000 employees across the country and the world.

  8. Purpose • Maintain a strong economy and create economic job opportunities. • Strengthen national security • The U.S Department of treasury is an executive agency responsible for promoting economic prosperity and ensuring the financial security of the U.S

  9. Secretary • The secretary of the department is Timothy F. Geithner. • Appointed by president Obama on January 26, 2009 • He is the 75th secretary.

Budget • Provides $14 billion in total budgetary resources, including program integrity funding, for treasury programs, a reduction of 2.7 percent below the 2012 enacted level when IRS funding is excluded. • Saves over $100 million through reduced administrative costs and efficiency initiatives.

  12. Department of Defense History The Department of Defense was originally named the National Military Establishment founded in 1947. Later renamed the Department of Defense in 1949. Caused by a change in the National Security Act which withdrew Cabinet-level status from the three branches of service.

  13. Leaders and Employees Secretary of Defense: Leon E. Panetta The numbers of employees in the Department of Defense is 450,000 This number includes all employees on U.S. soil, and world wide.

  14. Bureaus and Organization of the DOD The DOD is over watched by the Sec. of Defense, Leon E. Panetta, and then breaks into the three main branches of the Military. The Army, Navy, and Air Force are the three branches that the DOD breaks into, the Marines branch is underneath the Navy branch. Underneath the leaders of the branches of the Military, the division of power becomes the Commanders of all the bases worldwide, and goes further down the Chain of Command.

  15. Bureaus and Organization of the DOD Each branch of the Military has its own purposes. Army = Ground superiority Air Force = Air superiority Navy = Sea superiority Marines = Special Forces superiority Coast Guard and National Guard = Crisis Control Each branch works together all the time.

  16. Purpose The DOD’s job is to provide the nation the necessary forces needed to protect the security of our country. The DOD keeps all records of troops and supplies over seas for our Armed Forces who are serving us.

  17. Funding for the 2013 Fiscal Year The budget for the DOD is 525.4 billion. This is 1% less than last years version, a loss of 5.1 billion. This money maintains ready forces for the full range of crises. It also maintains all vehicles, and also funds testing and manufacturing.

  26. About the Interior It was created March 3, 1849. The last day of the 30th Congress. It has over 70,000 employees, including over 200,000 volunteers. The purpose of the DOI is to use science to protect and manage our nations wildlife, land, national parks, water and energy sources. Also, respecting our responsibilities to tribal nations.

  27. Head of Department The current head of department is Kenneth L. Salazar, who is known as the Secretary of the Interior. The budget: -2010- $13,679,000,000 -2011- $11,344,000,000 -2012- $13,450,000,000 -2013 proposed- $11,400,000,000

  28. Services and Bureaus The DOI supports many programs including: 1.) The Bureau of Land Management- Manages over 245 million acres of land and over 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate. 2.) U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service- Their mission is to provide and protect the fish and wildlife of the U.S. 3.) National Park Service- Make sure that all national parks are protected and safe.

  30. The Department of Agriculture • The Department of Agriculture (USDA) was created by an act of Congress on May 15, 1862 • The Department of Agriculture has 21 members • Thomas J. Vilsack is the head of the USDA

The Department of Agriculture works to improve and maintain farm income and to develop and expand markets abroad for agricultural products. • The Department helps to cure poverty and hunger. • It works to enhance the environment and to maintain production capacity by helping landowners protect the soil, water, forests, and other natural resources. • Secretary Provides $23 billion in discretionary funding • Spending was cut by 3 percent or about $700 million, below the 2012 enacted level • Reduces the deficit by $32 billion over 10 years by eliminating direct farm payments.

Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service • The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is responsible for protecting and promoting U.S. agricultural health, administering the Animal Welfare Act, and carrying out wildlife damage management activities. • Food Safety and Inspection Service • The Food Safety and Inspection Service is the public health agency in the U.S. Department of Agriculture responsible for ensuring that the nation's commercial supply of meat, poultry, and egg products are safe

  34. Purpose of the Department The Department of Commerce promotes the Nation's international trade, economic growth, and technological advancement. On the two year anniversary of the NEI, the department released data showing that jobs supported by U.S. exports increased by 1.2 million between 2009 and 2011.

Organizations of this Department Multifamily Housing-works with government to shape regulations that affects multifamily houses Office of Housing-Provides vital pubic services, oversees the Federal Housing Administration and regulates housing industry business. Community Planning and Development-Develops communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environments for low income families.
