Types of poetry There are really too many to mention, so here are a few:
Narrative poetry • The poet tells a story.
Lyrical poetry • A Lyric is a poem that expresses personal and emotional feelings. Most songs are lyrical poems.
sonnet • A Sonnet is a poem of an expressive thought or idea made up of 14 lines, each being 10 syllables long.
ode • An Ode is a lyric poem, usually addressing a particular person or thing. Odes use similesand metaphors
ballad • A type of a narrative poem which deals with a theme usually of love.
epic • An Epic is a serious poem that tells the story of a heroic journey.
limerick • Ahumorous or a nonsensical poem consisting of a stanza made up of five lines.
