  2. Electricity was brought into the homes of the majority of Canadians • Advancements in electronic from WWI meant that many new products were invented • Most devices were designed to improve the quality of life for the average homeowner What happened in the 20’s?

The first mass production automobile was created by Henry Ford • It was called the Ford Model T • So many Model Ts (or Tin Lizzies) were sold that Ford became the worlds richest man • By using an “assembly line,” cars could be made faster, cheaper and with better quality • The assmbly line was perhaps the most important invention of the 1920’s because most products became affordable and reliable for the first time The Ford Model “T”

  4. Frederick Banting and Charles Best, researchers from the University of Toronto, invented insulin. Insulin is naturally produced by the body and regulates blood sugar levels People with diabetes cannot produce insulin Before Banting and Best’s discovery, diabetes was a death sentence Banting sold the rights to insulin to the University of Toronto for $1 Insulin is one of the greatest medical inventions of all-time and has saved the lives of millions of people Medical Advancements: Insulin

The inventions of the 1920s made life easier for the average person • Household appliances gave people more free time • With people spending their money on all the affordable new products being made, factories opened up and jobs were created • The 1920’s saw good jobs, lots of money, and lots of leisure time for people • A happy and exciting decade!
