Mission Statement The mission of the Plainview Old Bethpage Central School District is to provide an academically challenging and stimulating environment for all students, and to enable them to realize their full potential to be happy, ethical and analytical citizens of the work. We do this by: • making tolerance, acceptance, respect, honesty and kindness expectations for all students, and for members of the Plainview Old Bethpage school community: • identifying each student’s academic, social-emotional, aesthetic and physical needs, and striving to meet those needs, and • encouraging communication between and among students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members.

Social & Emotional Learning (SEL)/Classroom Lessons • Introduction to “self control” and sitting/standing in a safe manner – “ # 1 position” • Using Good Manners • Feelings • Peace • Friendship • Teamwork • Listening Skills • Personal Space • Read Alouds that address a range of social-emotional skills. Please note that classroom lessons can be individual or small/large group programs. They are tailored to the developmental needs of the grade level.

Parent/Student Orientation Programs • Spring Orientation for parents and students • Community presentation for parents at the Plainview Y • Kindergarten Screening Program • August Open House/Orientation for students with their parents • Fall Back - to- School Night • Parent/Teacher conferences • Presentations at PTA meetings based on parent interests Past programs have included: listening skills, setting limits, social-emotional learning, reading to your child at home
