Cloud Bias Evaluation in CMIP5 Models Using MISR and ISCCP Data for Zonal Profiles

This study evaluates cloud biases in five climate models from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) using observed MISR and ISCCP cloud-top height and optical depth histograms. We present zonal profiles categorized by cloud height and optical depth, highlighting the models' performance regarding global and regional cloud properties. The analysis reveals compensating biases and suggests issues with phase partitioning and cloud representation, particularly in poleward regions. This research enhances understanding of model cloud behavior and its radiative impact.
