Empowering Rural Communities and Economic Development in the San Joaquin Valley

The Office of Community and Economic Development is dedicated to enhancing the prosperity of the San Joaquin Valley through innovative economic initiatives. We aim to boost economic innovation, develop effective business strategies, and cultivate strategic partnerships focused on community development. Through tailored technical assistance, our Rural Development Center strives to enhance quality of life in rural areas. We encourage collaboration among rural municipalities, nonprofits, and community members to share resources and best practices, ultimately fostering informed decision-making and stronger community capacities.

  2. Officeof Community&EconomicDevelopment Mission- An on-campus division dedicated to aligning the university's intellectual capacity and innovation-driven economic development initiatives to improve the competitiveness and prosperity of the region.

  3. Five specific goals: Increase Economic Innovation through the eight-county region. Develop effective systems that promote Business and Industry Strategy. Enhance Public Policy in favor of the eight-county region. Create strategic partnerships focused on Community Development. Develop educational programs that empower the Leaders of tomorrow.

  4. San Joaquin ValleyRural Development Center Mission- To improve quality of life in rural communities by providing customized technical assistance that will enhancing local capacity.

  5. Three specific goals: Develop, maintain and facilitate an effective one-stop clearinghouse of resources and services for rural communities. Strengthen rural communities’ local capacity to resolve pressing community needs. Increase rural communities’ informed decision-making by providing objective, third-party expertise.

  6. San Joaquin ValleySmall Communities Network Purpose- Established in 2009 to provide a forum for rural communities to mutually exchange information, resources, best practices and opportunities.

  7. Small Communities Network: Members: rural municipalities, public agencies, nonprofits and CBOs, businesses, elected officials and community members. Activities: quarterly regional workshops, webinar trainings and daily email distributions. Role with SJV RDC: the platform for convening rural communities and connecting them to resources and services of SJV RDC.
