  5. The city is 233 years old.I t is a big industrial, cultural and historical centre .

  6. They say that the name comes from Turkish language and means “Golden fish” or “Golden scales” Sarapul

  7. But my grandmother used to say that the word “Sarapul” is translated from udmurt language as “the Green city” because there are lots of trees there.

  8. Now the city is home to about 98,000 people , of different nationalities and faiths. This is mainly Orthodox and Muslim, Russian , Udmurt and Tatars .

  9. The number architectural monuments in Sarapulis more than in any other cities of Udmurtia. There used to be 33 churches and two monasteries. Some of them were built by the Frenchmen, taken as prisoners after the Great Patriotic war of 1812.

  10. Even from big distance you can see the oldest fire tower. In old times a guard was sitting on its top looking for the places of combustion.

  11. This unsightly building is the theater, the oldest in Udmurtia. It is more than 100 years old.

  12. This locomotive has saved 1,000 people from starvation.

  13. The famous cavalry maid, who served in Kutuzov’s army comes from our city. You can see the monument to NadezhdaDurova on the bank of the Kama river.

  14. Most of all I enjoyed swimming in the Kama river. • I will be missing it and my granny and waiting for the next summer holidays !!!
