Formatting • Applied to spreadsheet components for the purpose of organizing and clarifying information • Data in a uniform and consistent format is much easier to understand
Header/Footer • Used to identify information to a spreadsheet • May include: • Title of company • Date • Page number • Time of creation • Contact information
Font Size and Style • Used to clarify information by adding emphasis to: • Titles • Column/Row headings • Grand totals
Justification • Can be applied globally to columns or rows • Cell data titles, headings • Labels • Values • (formulas, functions, dates, times, and numbers)
Justification = Consistency • Left (default) • Labels • Right • Values • Decimals – 200.00 • Commas – Use or Don’t Use • Dollars - $ • Dates - Consistent • Center • Titles and column/row headings • Indents • Subcategories • Itemized list of expenses in a budget
Wrap • Applied to cells that require more space when the row or column size is adjusted • Multi-line text
Merge • Used to combine adjacent cell ranges or cells • When merged the default alignment is centered
Column Width • Adjusted to fix the longest entry • ### will appear in a cell if the width is too small to display the contents
Borders and Shading • Emphasizes and organizes information • Can be applied to: • Columns • Rows • Cell ranges • Individual cells
Editing • Columns and Rows can be: • Inserted, copied, pasted, or deleted • Cell data can be cleared, copied, or pasted • Cells can be merged when space requirements are an issue
Renaming • Makes a spreadsheet more user-friendly by adding a descriptive identifier to the spreadsheet tab • Spreadsheets can also be reordered
