  1. All About Phillis Wheatley By: Amanda Grade 3 Mrs. McGarry’s Class

  2. Did you know where Phillis was born? She was born in west Africa, in 1753, and got kidnapped by slave traders when she was 6. Also, she then got bought by a family called the ‘’Wheatleys’’, they bought her so Phillis could serve Susannah the mother, and John, the father. Susannah and John were both Boston residents who decided to call the thin, unhealthy six year older Phillis. Life was unfair when Phillis was a childbecause she was a slave and not an American by birth. Also, Phillis got sick, coughed a lot and had trouble breathing mostly because of the cold Boston weather. She was sent to Britain by her parents who were hoping she wouldn’t be so sick anymore and her health would get better. There she met a man who was free named John Peters and married him in 1778. Also, she traveled to England and began to be a poet in the year 1767. Sadly, she passed away when she was 31. Finally, those are some things about Phillis Wheatley’s life growing up. 3. Why do we remember Phillis Wheatley? We remember Phillis for her beautiful poetry. Also, we remember her for all the hard work she did and the hard things she had to put up with. Example: she got kidnapped at only age six, was a slave, got sick and had trouble breathing, and died at 31. As you can see, we remember Phillis for her hard work in poetry. Why Do We Remember Phillis Wheatley?

  4. There are some cool facts you should know! Phillis Wheatley’s books cost more than bread and food was really expensive in those days! Also, she was 13 when she wrote her first poem and was 15 when she was reading Latin. Also, in those days dying at age 31 wasn’t young. It wasn’t a young age to die at because there was no medicine and there were many wars in the old time. Overall, those are some interesting facts I thought you should know!!! Did You Know?
