  2. Key Framework Pillars • Low Operating Cost • Inform Parents about funding cost • Connect the pipe line both inter and intra • Motivate to go to college – Si se puede!

Pillar 1: Cheap = Shared Cost • All participating partners would make a contribution – typically in-kind, not $ • Examples: • School Districts = buses • Community Colleges = Free space & staff • ASU = Facilities and staff • Business = tickets, food • HBLI = Administration and staff salaries • Lumina Foundation = $75,000/yr for 2 years

  4. Pillar 2: Help for Parents as Participants • Educate parents about their responsibility of helping to fund a college education for their children • Basic ways to fund an education • Resources available to them and their children • Where to get help now and in the future

  5. Pillar 3: Connecting the Pipeline • Intra – within a school district • Inter – bridge between elementary district and feeder high school district • Form Clusters (3) • Link with community college and ASU • How? • Spoke early to get superintendent and college president’s commitment • Identify district/college representative with Authority

  6. Three Clusters serving over 300 Students per year

  7. Helping Parents • To learn about cost and finding funds • Secondary and unanticipated – getting them interested in going to college (Maricopa CC)

  8. College Recruitment Night • Held at Community College campuses • Who typically showed: • ASU • NAU • UA • Maricopa Colleges • Out of state: LA, CO,

  9. Motivation • Role Models • Employment Opportunities

  10. Week Long Living on ASU campusfor 100 students (parents) • Stayed in Dorms • Special presentations • Mars Project • Recreational facilities • Ate at MU • Provided with ESC backpacks & more • Role models • Diamond Backs Ticket Manager- Latina
