Edward Peirson Richardson Jr., MD(1918-1998) • From a long line of HMS scholars/faculty: • Father & Paternal Grandfather Chiefs of MGH surgery • Mother: Clara Lee Shattuck; he was the 6th Shattuck physician & Shattuck street is where HMS is located • 1939 Harvard & 1943 HMS • 1944 – 1946: Served in WWII as a physician • 1946: MGH Psychiatry Resident under Dr. Stanley Cobb • 1947: Queens Square Neurology & Maudsley Hospital for Psychiatry • Queen Square-exposed to Dr. J. Goodwin Greenfield Neuropathology • 1949: MGH Asstistant to Dr. Charles Kubik in Neuropathology • 1951 – 1989: Neuropathology Lab Director • Worked with Adams, Miller Fisher, Castlemen, & Victor • Continued to work until a few months before his death from lymphoma • 1984: Bullard Professor of Neuropathology

Edward Peirson Richardson Jr., MD(1918-1998) • MGH residents all did 1 year Neuropathology for many years & were trained by EPR • He taught Neuropathology courses at HMS for 2nd year medical students with RD Adams, MD & Alfred Pope, MD • Also taken by all Neuropathology trainees - Neurology and Path residents • Frequent contributor to Pathology section of NE Journal of Medicine & CPCs • Led Neuropathology teaching sessions/brain cutting during Tuesday evening conferences Neurology. 1967;17(8 Pt 2):22-5
