  4. Who is our audience? Use the text tool to type on the screen the grades and subjects that you teach.

  5. Focus and Objectives Focus Question: How can educators use blogging to enhance the learning experience for students in the content area of reading in the P-12 learning environment? Objective: The learners will be able to identify uses for blogging in the content area of reading.

  6. Have you ever used a blog with your students? YES NO I would like to, but who has time?!?

Why Blog? • Encourages shy students to participate • Creates a sense of community in a • classroom • Extra reading and writing practice • Creates a way to communicate and/or • respond outside of class. • Students develop a desire to write • correctly, knowing that others will • see their writing.

What can elementary school students “talk” about? • Post original fact and opinion sentences • Word walls • Respond to literature • Classroom debate • Post sentences which include current vocabulary and spelling words • Students post facts on an assigned topic (ie. Frogs) and then class compiles facts and writes an informational paper.

What can middle school students “talk” about? • Pen-Pals with students from other states…or even other countries!! • Share poetry • Random acts of kindness… • Classroom debate • Start a book club! • Private journals between student/teacher • Reflections (example: successes/failures at school?)
