  1. Role of Tape Library in Backup process In data storage, a tape library contains multiple tape drives for reading and writing data with magnetic tape cartridges and tape drives. As industry leading tape library suppliers, Datagram technologies provides hardware and software used for data archiving, backup, and recovery in partnership with Quantum. A tape library should be adaptable with the company’s data protection system including the backup software. The library is stacked with numerous tapes with barcodes to track the tapes and a device for mounting and dismounting the cartridges. Let us look at the role of the tape library in the back up process. Storage: Tape devices provide large storage capacity that benefit the organization’s data management process. Its physical structure is small which makes it easy to store but has a high- storage capacity that does not require a separate backup facility and additional purchasing equipment. Long-term archive: Tape acts as a data-archiving medium with a cost-effective system that doesn't require much maintenance. Compared to disk or cloud backups tapes capture more data and are suitable for the media and entertainment industries for storing large files. Security and air gapping: Tape delivers the advantage of storing data offline while separating it from the parent IT system. This allows companies to recover their data, when ransomware has taken out their networks. It helps to counter ransomware with an effective backup system. WORM and compliance: Long-term data retention for compliance and regulatory reasons is a concern for many businesses. Tape creates an immutable data record and writes data to store it on-site, off-site or both.

  2. Security: Tape backups get disconnected from the system once the backup operation is complete. Cyber attackers cannot access the data as it is unconnected to the system and will be protected against outside attacks. As quantum distributors in UAE, Datagram meets the demands of environments that require high-performance shared storage and low-cost, long-term storage. Its tape libraries have technologically evolved to supply long term storage of large data volumes as well as data archiving.
