  3. Context: our cities are ugly, and we miss Green… • We rarely see greenery in our cities • For example, in Beirut we have to go to Sayaye3, Syoufi or HerchBayrout to see few and very badely conserved trees • We lack of oxygen in our cities: trees and greenery are key environmental elements to produce oxygen • Our cities are ugly with no clear urban planning scheme… huge brand new towers, next to old non maintained buildings, ugly curtains on the balconies, etc. • In our cities, in some cases and neighbors, we lack fresh vegetables and fresh flowers • Some families have serious problems to answer their needs due to very severe economical conditions and the increase of all ingredients in our cities • Housing, schooling, food, petrol, … • Still in our cities, some women stay home and take care of the children. They can help their husbands bringing an extra revenue to the family while taking care of the house

  4. Concept: GIB (Green Is Back) • GIB is a new concept that is being deployed in major cities in the world • GIB intent to bring back Green to our cities in Lebanon • The concept: • What? • Use buildings’ rooftops to cultivate vegetation (trees, flowers, vegetables & fruits) • Who? • Serious women in needy families • Involvement of participants to the project being key, a special attention will be given to the selection phase • How? • A study should be held to determine the best suitable cultivation procedure to be adopted on our rooftop

  5. Benefits: esthetical, environment and social • Esthetical: we will see green in our cities again… • Environmental: trees, flowers, vegetables and fruits will produce oxygen in our polluted air!! • Social: • Needy & serious families will have an extra income • We will eat fresh vegetables and fruits in the city • We will encourage the local solidarity (in spite of buying vegetables at Monoprix, will be buy it from our “Green Rooftoper”, same for flowers • Easily extendable to several cities within Lebanon • Lebanon’s competitiveness: • After New York and Cairo, Beirut, Saida, Tripoli, and other cities will adopt Greenery

  6. Business Plan • The main aim of the project is to help needy people and not generate money for organizers • We need to invest some money at the beginning to: • Make a feasibility study for the project defining the geographical scope, plantation variety and cultivation processes to be adopted (with priorities) • Select the participants of the soft launch: • End users: women who will take care of the plantations • Building owners: with which buildings to start (ideally in several cities in Lebanon) • After the feasibility study and the soft launch will take conclusions and we will need to raise funds to extend the project on a national level
