  1. Turmeric- The Magic Spice Turmeric is a spice that is often used as a food flavoring in Asian dishes. It has a warm slightly bitter taste and it belongs to the ginger family. Also known as Indian saffron, haridra or haldi, it is the main ingredient and what gives the bright yellow color to curry powder. Turmeric is grown in Asian countries and has commonly been a part of Asian food for ages. Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin. Curcumin is a strong anti-inflammatory. It has been used for thousands of years to treat skin conditions and heal wounds. Turmeric has been used in India for thousands of years as a medicinal herb as well as a spice. Turmeric has been called "the internal healer" in Ayurveda. One of the most common home remedies for injuries especially internal pain is drinking turmeric mixed with a glass of warm milk. Turmeric has been used to treat joint pain including Arthritis for thousands of years. It reduces pain and swelling and helps the healing process. Turmeric has also been shown to alleviate skin irritation, redness and itching caused by eczema, a natural skin cleanser for sensitive skin.
